At Craig’s Plumbing we are here for your emergency plumbing needs 24/7 in the Las Vegas valley, but with some of these tips you should use us less frequently, and save money and reduce headaches as a result. Use these plumbing tips for your drains and faucets, and contact us for service should it come to that.

Unclogging Your Sink Drain

After time it is common that a sink drains slower than it did before. If this happens in your home you can probably get it flowing again with the use of a standard plunger. This can be found at your local hardware store and are usually a dark red color and have a flat, relatively wide rim. While the smaller sizes tend to be better for sinks, the larger sizes are generally more effective on shower and bathtub drains.

To unclog the drain, center the plunger over the drain opening and pump it several times. This pumping action will create a seal and a vacuum. The suction of this vacuum will likely loosen the clog, allowing it to flow freely down the drain. Some clogs may even be sucked out of the drain during the process. If this occurs the debris should be discarded in a trash receptacle, not back down the drain. Didn’t work the first try? Don’t get frustrated, just repeat the process and try again. Some clogs are more challenging to get unstuck, and some require professional assistance and tools. If you are unable to get the clog to move, contact us. While clogged drains aren’t typically an emergency we offer 24/7 emergency plumbing services to aide you in your plumbing needs at any time of day or night.

What to do for a Dripping Faucet?

In the desert region Las Vegas sits, we all know the importance of water conservation, and even a slow dripping faucet can significantly increase your water usage and associated water bill. As soon as a dripping faucet is detected, the water supply should be turned off. To do this check under the vanity or cabinet of a sink, and in the access panel on the wall behind a tub’s faucet.

Only the hot or cold water, whichever is dripping, needs to be shut off to prevent dripping and water waste. The rule of thumb is right makes it tight and left makes it loose, so turning the valve to the right should do the job. If you plan on replacing the faucet yourself both valves should be turned off prior to replacement, and turning the main water supply off for the duration of the repair process adds an extra level of safety, but is not entirely necessary.

Not a handy person? That’s alright, Craig’s Plumbing has a technician in the area and can respond to your needs quickly to get your dripping faucet fixed. Contact us to schedule an appointment today and have that leaking faucet fixed in no time.
